Introduced in 1981 during the Cold War, the Abrams main battle tank has become a prominent symbol of American military might. This comprehensive guide by David Grummitt, part of the TankCraft series, delves into the tank's history and modeling. Initially designed to counter the Warsaw Pact's massed tank forces, the Abrams first saw combat in 1991 during the Gulf War. Since then, it has served in peacekeeping roles and seen action in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Yemen. Through various modifications and upgrades, the Abrams remains a staple of the US Army, projected to continue until at least 2050.
